Katya Dobryakova is a contemporary Russian fashion designer who established herself as a style leader in her native country by weaving wit and satire with bold colors and ironic riffs on popular culture. Her design philosophy from the beginning was to blend pop culture and satire. Political themes and social upheaval – distilled into indelible themes and symbols – are reinterpreted by Dobryakova into prints that are then transferred from paper to cloth. From simple printing, Dobryakova soon discovered that she could use embroidery to bring life and dimension to her concepts and vision in order to give them a deeper meaning. The foundation of her collection include items with basic cuts such as sweatshirts, pants, jackets and dresses which are functional and perfect for everyday wear. Original designs or drawings by Dobryakova are then meticulously rendered as convex 3D embroideries.
